The Process of Therapy

Welcome to my practice. Participating in psychotherapy is a special opportunity to understand yourself and your place in the world more deeply. It is a chance to explore your internal and external life in a way that promotes positive changes that are important to you and your loved ones.

This process can be rewarding, fascinating, and profoundly meaningful. It can also be challenging, and at times, lead you into difficult emotions and self-discoveries. While there are no guarantees in any therapy, your commitment and active participation will contribute greatly to positive outcomes. Trusting in this process is an important factor in healing.

If any questions, doubts, or concerns arise at any time, please bring them to my attention so we can work together on easing any barriers to the success of your therapy.

Confidentiality

The content of our sessions is strictly confidential and protected by law. There are four exceptions, as required by law: (1) if you reveal that a child, elder, or dependent adult is the victim of abuse or neglect; (2) if you make a serious threat to harm another person; (3) if you are a danger to yourself; (4) if a court orders a therapist to release information. You may also sign a written release giving me permission to speak about your case with other people.

Fees

My fee is $210 per 60-minute session. I hold a few slots for sliding scale clients, arranged individually depending on need. Sessions longer than 60 minutes are charged pro rata. I reserve the right to periodically adjust this fee and will notify you of any adjustment in advance.

Venmo, Zelle, cash, check, and credit card are all accepted. Payment is due at the time services are rendered. Please let me know if any problem arises during the course of therapy regarding your ability to make timely payments.

From time to time I may engage in phone or email contact with you (or with parents, guardians, family members, or other professionals on your team) for purposes other than scheduling. You are responsible for the agreed-upon fee, pro rata, for any calls or emails longer than ten minutes. With certain cases I find it a necessary part of treatment to put extra time into planning and collaboration — this is often true when working with a family system as a whole, and when working with adolescent clients to support parents in their child's treatment.

Cancellation

Your scheduled appointments are times reserved exclusively for you. If you need to cancel, please give at least 24 hours notice. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours will be billed for the full fee, unless we're able to reschedule within the same work week.

Availability

If you'd like to reach me outside of your appointment regarding scheduling or urgent issues, please call my voicemail and I'll return your call. I don't generally check voicemail from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. If you'd like a back-up therapist during a time I'm away, that can be arranged.

Completing Therapy

If we work together for more than three sessions, I ask that you let me know in advance of your decision to end therapy so we can have one last session to bring closure to our work together. This is a request, not a requirement
